Meet your Teacher
Niaz Kork, Lead Educator
At the Think+DO Tank Language Writing Academy, Niaz holds a space that is secular and non-religious, focused on creative learning, play and confidence building.
Niaz made her way to Australia in 1989, embarking on a journey that would encompass over 30 years of teaching experience. Her foray into the field of education commenced when she was still at high school. Over the course of two years, she honed her teaching skills by teaching Mathematics at Darussalam Primary School in Lebanon, all the while pursuing studies in Arabic literature at the Lebanese University.
Upon her arrival in Australia, Niaz graduated from Western Sydney University, specialising as a High School LOTE (Languages Other Than English) teacher. Her dedication to education led her to employment at institutions such as Arkana College and Alnoori Muslim School.
Determined to expand her academic horizons, Niaz pursued and successfully completed Masters degrees in Islamic Studies and Classical Arabic at Charles Sturt University. Her commitment to the art of Tajweed is noteworthy, having attained Ijaza in Tajweed from Dawn Institute, and subsequently disseminating her knowledge of Tajweed through various organizations, including IWWA, Dawn, Fitya, and the Australian Muslim Institute. Her contributions extended to coordinating Saturday School and Tajweed School at Islah College in Sydney.
Niaz's passion for education transcended conventional boundaries as she pursued studies in Early Childhood Education and Care, subsequently working as an educator for a span of five years. Her multifaceted involvement in academia is underscored by her authorship of a series of books aimed at teaching the Arabic language to primary students.
Niaz's intellectual interests are diverse, with a particular fervour for the realm of science.
Niaz is not only a dedicated educator but also a staunch advocate for women's rights.
Languages: Arabic, English, and French. She possesses a foundational understanding of Italian.
